Founded in Clitheroe in 1939 Wellgate Fisheries has grown from a small family run fishmongers, serving the residents of the Ribble Valley, into a company based in a state-of-the-art purpose-built facility, striving to meet the demands of caterers and chefs from across the North of England. Our aim is to provide an opportunity for the modern chef to source the best fish available. We use both local fishermen who are committed to developing the sustainability of fishing in the North of England, and the Manchester wholesale fish market, one of the largest inland markets in the country. We also source directly from small independent producers and fishermen around the country on a daily basis in a bid to deliver the high quality and variety our customers demand. Wellgate Fisheries still retails from its original premises in the heart of Clitheroe and from the town’s historic three day Market, but the wholesale and catering supply division is now based in purpose-built premises on the outskirts of the town. Operating from the early hours of the morning, these facilities comply with all current health and safety legislation. All deliveries are made in our fleet of fully refrigerated vehicles five days a week Tuesday through to Saturday.
